Frequently Asked Questions ā

Are you licensed?

YES, I am a Licensed Cosmetologist in the state of Rhode Island for 24 years and am also a certified Lash Lift Technician. The State of Rhode Island requires a Lash Lift Technician to be professionally licensed (i.e. Cosmetology or Esthetician license, etc). This regulation is mandated by the Rhode Island Department of Health. It is important to select a licensed, trained, and skilled professional to ensure proper procedures and safety protocols are followed.

Lash Lift:

What is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a treatment that enhances your natural eyelashes, giving them a semi-permanent lift and curl, and gives the appearance of longer, curlier lashes without the need for lash extensions. A lash lift lasts about 4 to 8 weeks, depending on how quickly your lashes grow. Basically, until your lashes naturally fall out and are replaced with new growth.

What should I do to prepare for the Lash Lift service?

Please arrive with absolutely no makeup on your eyes. This includes but is not limited to:

  • No eyeshadow

  • No eyeliner

  • No mascara

  • No lash extensions

If you remove eye makeup on the same day as the lash lift service, you run the risk of the lashes not lifting, eye irritation and/or having an unforeseen allergic reaction. If you arrive wearing eye makeup, mascara or eyeliner, a $25 makeup removal fee will be added to your service.

How long does a Lash Lift take?

The lash lift service takes about 45 minutes. If you choose to have a lash conditioning treatment or your eyelashes tinted, both will enhance the effects of your lash lift, this will add an extra 15 minutes to your appointment time.

Does the Lash Lift treatment hurt?

The treatment is completely painless. Many clients take this opportunity to relax (and some even fall asleep) during the treatment.

Is the Lash Lift safe?

Yes. The eyelashes are lifted onto specially shaped silicone pads so that none of the product that is applied gets in your eyes. In Rhode Island, this service is required to only be performed by a licensed cosmetologist or esthetician.

How long does a Lash Lift last?

When applied by a professional and proper aftercare recommendations are followed, a lash lift can last up to 8 weeks. The length of time also depends on your lash growth cycles and varies from person to person. There is no need for maintenance appointments in between treatments, unlike with lash extensions, however, the process can be repeated after 5 weeks to lift the new hair growth. There are some situations that may cause the lift to drop/weaken prematurely such as swimming, use of harsh products, eye rubbing, or heat. Lash serums, biotin, and/or medications can also affect the lash cycle, resulting in quicker lash shedding.

Does a Lash Lift make my eyelashes longer or thicker?

A lash lift does not add length, only lifts and curls your natural lashes to give the appearance of longer lashes.

Is a Lash Lift worth it for short eyelashes?

Most of the time, yes, however, if the natural lashes are extremely short they will not grip upwards on the silicone rods preventing the lash lift from working. For best results the natural lashes should be medium to long length. Using a lash growth serum could improve the length of the natural lashes.

Are my lashes long enough for a lash lift?

For best results, lashes should be at least a 5mm length for a lash lift. Lash growth serum can also be used prior to getting the lash lift to help your lashes grow to acceptable length. Clients have the option to purchase GrandeLASH-MD Lash Enhancing Serum when you schedule your appointment.

I wear contact lenses, can I have this treatment?

Yes, but the contacts MUST BE REMOVED before the treatment begins. They can be put back in after the treatment is complete.

I currently have lash extensions on, can I get a Lash Lift?

NO! A lash lift treatment can only be applied to your natural lashes. If you arrive with extensions we cannot complete the lash lift service and you will be charged the full service fee for the reserved appointment time.

I currently have lash extensions on. Are you able to remove them prior to the Lash Lift?

If youā€™re thinking about removing your lash extensions, do not do it yourself. We recommend having them professionally removed or by the person who applied them. Avoid picking off your lashes at all costs!

I had a reaction to lash extensions, will I have a reaction to a lash lift?

Itā€™s hard to say. Most people do not have any issues with the lash lift. If you have any concerns we recommend scheduling a patch test.

How long should I wait after having my extensions removed to have a lash lift?

Thatā€™s completely up to you and it depends on the condition of your natural lashes. Most clients will use a lash growth serum for a couple months after the removal of lash extensions to help grow the natural lashes. This is beneficial especially if the natural lashes were damaged or a shorter due to the extensions. Keep in mind the lashes should be at least 5mm long for a lash lift. Lash lift results can vary depending on length and condition.

Can I wear makeup and mascara after my Lash Lift?

Yes, but it is advised that you leave your lashes untouched for at least 24-48 hours after your treatment. You may find that there is no need for mascara following a lash tint treatment. If you wish to make your lashes even fuller, a non-waterproof mascara is recommended because the removal of waterproof mascaras can be harsh on the lashes and may weaken the lift.

How do I clean my eyes after a treatment?

Gently, using mild products. It is recommended that you wait 24-48 hours after the treatment before cleaning your eyes.

Can I use an eyelash curler after a Lash Lift?

No. There will be no need for an eyelash curler as this treatment gives a much better result than using a curler. More importantly, using one after a lash lift may weaken and damage your lashes.

How often can I have a Lash Lift?

A lash lift will begin to naturally relax around 6 to 8 weeks and your lashes will return to their natural look. You can repeat the treatment after a minimum of 5 weeks if you feel you need to, or you can wait until they are back to their natural state.

Will I have a reaction to the lotion or tint?

Some clients may experience mild redness or irritation which typically goes away within a few minutes after treatment. A patch test can also be done at least three days prior to your scheduled appointment.

What is a patch test?

Patch testing ensures you do not have any allergies or sensitivities to the ingredients in the products used during the lash lift service. A patch test should be scheduled three days prior to your lash lift service.

We will apply a small amount of each solution to a specific area of your skin. The solution is wiped off and area should be left alone for 24 hours. You should monitor the area for any irritation (itchiness, redness, burning) on the skin. If there is no irritation to the area then you may proceed with scheduling your lash lift service.

Should I spray tan before or after getting a Lash Lift?

It is recommended that any face, brow, or body services be done BEFORE the lash appointment. Lashes must remain dry for at least 24-48 hours. Any oils, spray tanning solution, or makeup can reduce the effect of the lift, or cause them to relax.

Is it okay to use a lash growth serum (i.e. lash boost) or oils after having a Lash Lift?

Yes. It is recommended that you wait 48 hours after having a Lash Lift to continue with your lash growth regimen.

I had a lash lift done at another salon. When can I schedule an appointment with you?

If you have had a lash lift performed at another salon you should wait 6 weeks before scheduling with us.

Do you ā€œliftā€ the bottom lashes?

No. We do not lift bottom lashes.

Iā€™m pregnant. Can I get a lash lift?

We cannot give you medical advice and every person is different. It is up to you to check with your doctor to make sure you can do a lash lift before scheduling the service.

My lashes grow straight down. Can I still get a lash lift?

In most cases, yes, although results will vary from person to person.

When should I schedule my next appointment?

Most clients schedule their next appointment after 5 weeks so previously lifted lashes and newly grown lashes will have a more uniform look.

What products do you use?

We use the highest quality professional lash products available in the beauty industry.

Lash Tint:

What is a Lash Tint?

A Lash Tint is a semi-permanent color treatment that enhances your natural eyelashes, giving your lashes a long-lasting mascara effect without the hassle of smudging, running, or clumping lashes. The most dramatic results are for those who have naturally light colored (blonde, gray, light brown) lashes. This service is often combined with a lash lift to make eyelashes really ā€œpop.ā€

Who would be a good candidate for a Lash Tint?

Eyelash tinting is especially great for individuals who participate in sports and tend to get sweaty since thereā€™s no need for mascara. In addition, people who wear contact lenses can also benefit since they no longer have to worry about clumps of mascara getting into their eyes. The most dramatic results are seen with those who have naturally light colored (blonde, gray, light brown) lashes.

Do you tint bottom lashes too?

Yes! At Lash Lift RI we tint both the top and bottom eyelashes. Many other salons who offer this service only tint the top lashes. Results may vary depending on length and thickness of lower lashes.

How long does a Lash Tint last?

A lash tint lasts approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on your lash growth cycle.

Will a Lash Tint damage my natural lashes?

No, the dyes used are specifically made for lashes and cannot harm your lashes.

What color tint do you use?

We use a jet black tint for lashes.
